Being able to find an image online doesn’t automatically mean you’re entitled to use it.

This section provides practical guidance around image rights, copyright, licensing, permissions, attribution and responsible image use. We look at questions that arise when using your own photographs, stock photography, contributed images and photographs obtained from external sources.

We’ll also explore responsible publishing decisions that go beyond basic copyright: understanding licence restrictions, checking where an image came from and considering whether a photograph should be published in a particular context.
